Eye Doctor

We got an email from Emi's teacher saying that Emi was having trouble reading the board from her seat. uh-oh. I really did not want her to need glasses - of course, Brian and I are one step away from having to use a white tipped cane so I knew she was probably going to need them at some point. I just didn't want her to have to fool with glasses this early in life. But of course like good parents we took her to the eye doctor ;)

getting her glaucoma test (she loved that - there's nothing like having someone shoot air in your eye)

waiting on Dr. Kendrick

He joked with her that these would be her new glasses - she was not amused :)

she's not color blind - I already knew this since everything she owns is pink or purple :)
the verdict: she needs glasses but only to read the board in school so we'll get her some glasses to keep in her desk. I can handle that :)

these are the glasses that Mom liked but she spotted the purple version of these and wouldn't relent. so, we gave in to the purple ones - it helps that she only has to wear them at school!
I forgot to take a picture of the purple ones so I'll post a pic once we get them.

Snow Day

We had a snow day - yoo-hoo!! I love snow days. However, Jack and I woke up with pink eye and that wasn't pleasant. Emi kept telling me that I looked like a pirate with only one good eye - she's so sweet to her mother.

snow!!

We decided to tackle this jewelry box kit that Emi got for her birthday. It came with about 4,000 tiny jewels that you had to glue on. Thankfully it came with a guide so you knew exactly where to put the jewels otherwise this could have been disastrous!

about an hour into it.....

4 hours later - all done! Nothing like spending 4 hours gluing on teeny tiny jewels with your bad, pirate eye ;)

Build A Bear

Emi is obsessed with Build A Bear - I keep hoping she will grow out of it but that hasn't happened yet. She got some money for her birthday so she decided she would spend it at Build A Bear. While we were there, we determined that she has done this 8 times. The sad part (well, maybe the good part) is that she actually plays with all of them.

She went for a bunny this go 'round

Brian was really getting into it ;)

Jack was really excited to be there

picking out clothes is the hardest part!

Emi turned 7

I can't believe my sweet little Emi Joy is 7!

Here she is 7 years ago on the day she was born. Makes me have baby fever ;)

For months she has been telling me that she wanted a movie theater birthday party so that's what we did. It was pretty awesome minus the fact that Malco decided 2 days before the party to cancel the 2:40 viewing of Monsters Inc. After a mini heart attack, I emailed everyone to change the time of the party and it all worked out fine. It was so nice not to have to entertain kids. I just provided the cupcakes and sent them off to the movie - it was great!

I found these cupcakes on Pinterest. They were so easy to make and they turned out really cute.

I still can't believe she's 7!! Makes me feel old ;)

New Year's Eve

We know some people that have fondue for dinner every New Year's Eve and their kids love it. This year we thought we would start that tradition - I love me some fondue!! Before we invested in the fondue set we thought we would try it out just to make sure that we liked it. It was a hit with everyone except Jack so next year we may get all fancy and actually use a fondue pot ;)

I really did try to get a picture without Brian's hand in the pot but he couldn't stay away from the cheese. See Jack's face? He did not like it - he ended up with a Gerber Graduates Meal instead and that made him happy :)

dessert was the best part! melted dark chocolate with strawberries, bananas and pound cake.

We let Emi stay up to watch the ball drop in New York and then she was asleep by 11:05 and then Brian and I started watching Downton Abby and midnight swooshed past us and we didn't even realize it. Have you seen Downton Abby? It's so good - you must go and watch it now!!
